Jackson County Legislature Recognizes Tiger Wrestling Team
The Jackson County Legislature held is regular meeting on Monday, May 24, 2010 - during which County Legislator Bob Spence introduced Resolution #17285 congratulating the Lee's Summit High School Wrestling Team for receiving the Outstanding Scholastic Award from the Missouri State High Schools Activities Association (MSHSAA).

RESOLUTION #17285, May 24, 2010
INTRODUCED BY Bob Spence, County Legislator
WHEREAS, the Missouri State High Schools Activities Association promotes the value of participation, sportsmanship, team play and personal excellence to develop citizens who make positive contributions to their community and support the democratic principles of our state and nation; and,
WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit High School Wrestling team was recognized by the Association for Outstanding Scholarship; and,
WHEREAS, Tiger wrestlers Thomas Fiegner, Derek Herrman, Weston Keel, Jesse Morris, Spencer Courier, John Williams, Alex Swartz, Josh Aguilar, Chris Lattner, Justin Bruce, Josh Howard, Steven Kingsolver, Dylan Case and Sean Williams achieved a team grade point average of 3.41; and,
WHEREAS, Dylan Case and Josh Howard were named to the Academic All-State team for cumulative GPA's of 4.0 and 4.33, respectively; and,
WHEREAS, the leadership of John Faulkenberry, Principal, and Dan Schnell, Activities Director, have played a significant role in the academic and athletic development of the Tiger's wrestling program; and,
WHEREAS, the Tiger coaching staff, led by head coach Don Graham, assistant coaches Jay McGovern, Mark Hertzog, Jesse Sheets, Joe Aguilar, Bobby Narron, and Craig Bears have made academic achievement a priority of their wrestling program; and,
WHEREAS, Coach Graham is the son of former Jackson County Legislator John C. Graham, Sr. and Coach Hertzog is the grandson of former Jackson County Legislator Robert E. (Bud) Hertzog; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Lee's Summit High School Wrestling Team for their outstanding scholarship and extends sincere best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.

Bond Issue Passes - Work Begins on New Wrestling Facility

Planning and designing are underway for the new wrestling facility at LSHS, scheduled to open in August 2011.
Tigers Earn 2010 MSHSAA Team Outstanding Scholarship Award
Jackson County Legislature To Issue Proclamation Recognizing Achievement

The 2009-2010 LSHS Tigers Wrestling team recently received the Outstanding Scholarship Award from the Missouri State High Schools Activities Association. The award goes to teams with a team grade-point average of 3.41 or above.
This is a spectacular achievement for the team and demonstrates the coaching staff's and administration's emphasis on hard work on the mat and in the classroom.
Seniors Josh Howard, Dylan Case MWA All-State Academicians

Tiger Wrestling Seniors Josh Howard and Dylan Case were named to the Missouri Wrestling Associations' 2010 All-Academic Team. Requirements for the award are placing in the top six at state and achieving a 3.50 or better GPA.
Josh Howard placed 6th at the tournament and carries a 4.31 GPA - seventh in his class. Josh is also a two time LSHS Jay S. Helland Most Valuable Wrestler Award recipient. The recipient of this award demonstrates exemplary character, sportsmanship, scholarship and wrestling achievements.
Dylan Case was awarded to the all-academic team for placing 5th at state and earning a 4.1 GPA. Dylan was unable to attend the ceremony.
Tigers Tie for 11th at State with 3 Medalists
The Tigers finished their season in a tie for 11th place with 49.5 points and three medalists. Senior Spencer Courier finished 3rd. Senior Dylan Case finished 5th. Senior Josh Howard finished 6th.
Eight To State!

1st + 2nd + 2nd + 3rd + 3rd + 3rd + 3rd + 4th = 2nd !
LSHS Tiger Wrestling qualified eight wrestlers for the state tourney (the most since 10 in 1996) next weekend with their highest point total (152) since 1997 (197) and their first District 2nd place finish since 1997.

State Tourney qualifiers for the Tigers were 160# Champion Justin Bruce (Senior) who went 4-0 and carries a 33-5 record into his first trip to state.
Placing second were Seniors Spencer Courier, (130# - 3-1, 38-3, 4-time qualifier and 5th in 2009) and Dylan Case (215# - 2-1, 33-4, 2-time qualifier).
Third place qualifiers are Sophomore Jesse Morris (125# - 3-1, 25-13 2-time qualifier), and Senior John Williams (135# - 4-1, 24-13, 2-time qualifier). John battled from a unseeded start and losing in the second round to win 3 in a row and advance to state for the second time.
Also finishing third were Senior Josh Howard, who won his first state bid (171# - 4-1, 32-11), improving on his 4th place seed and Junior Steven Kingsolver (189# - 4-1, 23-9) who also qualifies for state for the first time.
Taking 4th place and earning his first state touney invite is Sophomore Josh Aguilar (145# - 3-2, 28-12). Josh overcame a first round loss to fight back and win three in a row and qualifiy for state.

The Tigers will again host the Class 4 / District 4 Super-Districts at the Lee's Summit High School Fieldhouse Feb. 12 and 13.
Wrestling will get underway on Friday the 12th at 5:00pm and continue Saturday morning at 9:00am.
Brackets will be posted after the seeding meeting concludes on Wednesday evening, Feb. 10
In addition to providing updated brackets and results as the tournament progresses, we will also be offering a blog of live, up-to-the-minute coverage of the action on the mat. You will be able to ask questions and post comments during the live blog-cast.

Tigers Defeat Chrisman In Final Dual of Season
Tigers wrestling closed out there dual season with a victory at William Chrisman Thursday night, 52-21, winning seven of eleven matches. Pinning their opponents were Jesse Morris, Spencer Courier, Josh Howard and Dylan Case. Sean Williams earned a major while John Williams and Seven Kingsolver got decisions.
Steven Kingsolver put his opponent onto his back at the end of the third period to get his win. All wins were important seeding criteria for next weeks super-districts. The junior varsity won 30-15.
Tigers Pull Away From Blue Springs South For Dual Win
On Senior Night at the LSHS Fieldhouse Tuesday evening, the Tiger seniors won all of their matches, leading the team to a 44-27 victory over the Blue Springs South Jaguars.

The Tiger wretlers had to fight their way back from an early 18 point deficit. First to win was Jesse Morris with a decision. Seniors Spencer Courier and John Williams were up next. Courier received a forfeit and Williams stuck his opponent in the second period. Alex Swartz also got a forfeit before Josh Aguilar won by major - giving the Tigers their first lead on the night - 25-24. The Jags won the next match, but that was it for them for the dual. Senior Josh Howard won by decision, Steven Kingsolver won by major, and Seniors Dylan Case and Sean Williams put the lid on the dual with falls by both.
