The Panthers responded with a pin of their own, tieing the score 6-6. Thomas Feigner, Freshman 103#, took the lead back by accepting a forfeit. The Panthers returned fire with two falls in a row and regained the lead 12-18. It was the Tiger's turn to roar now, however, drumming thru three decisions in a row. Jesse Morris, 125#, earned a decision in a hard fought battle. Freshman 130# Coulter Allen followed with his first varsity dual win, decisioning his opponent, followed by a tight match for Spencer Courier, who moved up a weight to 135#, winning by a takedown in overtime and giving the lead back to the Tigers 21-18.

The Panthers overtook the lead with a major decision at 140#. But, the Tigers' Josh Aguilar answered with a decision of his own at 145# for another team lead, 24-22. The Panthers edged back ahead with a pin at 152#, but the Tigers would not give up another team point. Justin Bruce, 160#, stuck his opponent, providing the go-ahead points for the Tigers, 30-28. With Josh Howard's decision at 171# and the Tigers ahead 33-28, all Steven Kingsolver, 189# and the last match of the night, really needed to accomplish was keep from getting teched or pinned to ensure the team victory. Steven had more than defending a team lead on his agenda, however. He stuck his opponent in the first minute and put a seal on the team victory.

Tigers Grab Seven Silvers at Marquette

Seven Tiger wrestlers earned second place hardware at the 2010 Marquette Invitational on Saturday. Senior Dylan Case (215#) and Sophomore Alex Swartz (140#) both recorded 3 falls each. Senior Spencer Courier (130#) had a fall and a tech.

The Tigers brought home 7 silver medals from the Marquette Tournament. Spencer Courier (130#), Alex Swartz (140#), Chris Lattern (152#), Justin Bruce (160#), Josh Howard (171#), Steven Kingsolver (189#) and Dylan Case (215#).

Steven Kingsolver stuck #7 ranked Bobby Ford from Fox in a championship 5th round that saw Tigers win all 5 matches in which they were pitted against Fox wrestlers - 4 by fall and 1 by tech fall. Fox was determined the eventual team champion in a controversial scoring system that awarded Fox over 100 team points for wrestling the first two pools against teams loaded with open weights. Host Marquette also benefited from the flawed scoring system, earning 2nd place, by qualifying wrestlers for the championship rounds via wrestling against a junior varsity team. Lee's Summit won more matches in the championship rounds (rounds 3 thru 5) than any other team and had more quality wins than any other team (quality wins are wins that score bonus points - falls, tech falls and majors). It is the first time anyone can remember that a team placed over half of its wrestlers in the top two spots, yet was not awarded a team trophy.

Tigers Hammer Indians 72-12

Josh Howard, Senior 171#, introduces his opponent's back to the mat for the team's 9th pin in a row.

On a frigid evening at the LSHS Field house, the Tiger Wrestlers were ready to put some heat in the place! They wasted no time warming up the 2010 part of the season by sticking 12 Indian wrestlers in a row. After an opening 112# loss by fall, the Tigers kept the Indians' backs to mat with successive falls at 119# thru 275#. Andrew Smith (Freshman, 119#) got the streak started by recording his first varsity win of the season, pinning his opponent in the first period.

Fans were on their feet at the end of each duel, cheering the Tigers on. Tongue-in-cheek complaints of sore knees were heard in the stands toward the end of the night as the fans wondered when the last time they'd seen such an over-powering display of Tiger wrestling. In fact, the last time was in 2004 when the Tigers won 70-3 over North Kansas City. This dual win places 6th on the all-time dual points scored list, getting in line just behind a 72-6 win over Belton in 1983. It is the largest margin of victory since a 59-point difference over Lee's Summit North in 2004. Team and Individual Records.

The Tigers will bring this heat wave to the Marquette Tourney this weekend where they are determined to bring home their first gold Mustang trophy from there, after having finished 3rd last year and 3rd in 2007.
